Ableton Live has been upgraded again to version 1.51
Live is an audio sequencer that you can play like an instrument, specialising in working with loops in real time, it also supports vst effects with full automation.
fixes in version 1.51 include,
- Windows 98 recording directory problem
- Loop length of recorded samples being set incorrectly in some cases
- Workaround for ReWire problems with Sonar (please see Manual Addendum)
- Relative controller assignments from version 1.1 documents were not converted correcntly
- Incompatiblity with some AIFF and WAV files
- Problems with MIDI devices that cannot be accessed anymore
- Several ASIO improvements
- Some more small things.
Ableton Live can be purchased online for $349 USD.

Leaf Drums is a software drum machine for musicians, it includes a sampelr and sequencer allowing you to string patterns together.
A number of effects are included as well as envelope control and support for unusual time signatures.
Version 2.1 features a redesigned interface which looks great.
You can order online for only $25 which is pretty reasonable.

Octiv have a number of products available including stream and octifier.
StreamPro prepares audio data prior to encoding, so only the most useful data is presented to the encoder, enabling better sound quality at low bitrates. There are a number of different configurations designed to support various source material, i.e. spoken word, classical, rock etc.
Streampro is available to Purchase online for $1099.



Octifier Pro appears to be an mp3 encoder with a command line interface (like they all have), it provides a scriptable interface designed to handle large amounts of audio in an enterprise environemnet. I am not sure how this differs from writing a batch file and using lame.exe perhaps someone can post in the comments.

CDXtract 4.0 is now available, version 4 is a major upgrade to the previous 3.6 version, click here for a list of formats that are now supported.
The full version can be purchased online for $139 or you can upgrade to version 4 for $44 if you own version 3.

IK Multimedia's Sampletank 1.14 is the first VSTi which combines a sophisticated software/synth engine with high quality multisampled sounds. Sampletank contains up 2.5GB of samples in the XL version which is approximately 450 sounds.
You can purchase it online for $499 USD, cheaper versions with less sounds are also available.

New from Professional Sound Projects is Lexicon PSP 42.
Lexicon PSP 42 is a vst/dx recreation of the lexicon pcm42, it is capable of generating a wide variety of delay-based effects ranging from tempo-locked feedback delay with high frequency absorption and tape saturation to flanging and phasing effects, however there is no mention of reverb which is what lexicon is usually known for.
There is a demo available, or you can purchase online for $149.

New from Steinberg is Cubase SX the 5th version of cubase for pc (they skipped version 4).
Cubase SX features the audio engine from the more expensive 'nuendo' but also with a lot of the midi features nuendo lacks, which probably has a lot of the customers of the more expensive product scratching their heads.
